Duolingo English Test
Take this test anywhere and at anytime! The Duolingo English Test is an online exam that you take on your personal computer. Like the TOEFL and IELTS, it tests all four language skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
With the Covid-19 pandemic effect due to which TOEFL and IELTS tests have been suspended, universities around the world have been looking for alternate tests formats which are flexible enough for students.
Hence, Duolingo test has now started to gain significant importance because of its flexibility.
The test is adaptive, which has some significant consequences for test-takers. Basically, if you answer a question correctly, the next one gets harder. If you answer it wrong, the next one gets easier. This means that, with relatively few questions, the exam can pinpoint your ability level quickly—that’s why it only takes around an hour to complete!
Duolingo English Test Format
Understand how your Duolingo English Test is formulated!Duolingo English Test has four sections- Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing.
It takes about 45-mins to complete. Students can retake the Duolingo test twice a month. It uses both human raters and automated scoring methods for evaluating a student’s performance.
The following questions are typically asked in a Duolingo Test:
- Describing an image in writing or aloud
- Recording yourself saying a written sentence
- Verbally answering a spoken question
- Listening to spoken words and selecting the real ones
- Reviewing written words and selecting the real ones
- Completing missing letters from a text
- Responding in writing to a written question (writing samples have a maximum of 500 words but are usually much shorter)
- Typing out a statement that you hear
The exam also includes a ‘video interview’ wherein students speak on their topic of choice for 1-3 minutes. This interview can be accessed by placement companies and recruiters to shortlist international job candidates in the future.
Another important aspect of the exam is its duration. Really proficient speakers can even finish the exam in 45 minutes, but students who find the exam tough are given enough opportunities with questions they can manage, as the test adapts itself according to answers given by them.
That means, you can not only take Duolingo classes online with Scholar Prep Test, but you can also prepare for your actual Duolingo English test from home! Sounds perfect, right?
Score System
Know about how your Duolingo Scorecard works! The Duolingo English Test is a computer-based test and is designed to assess real-world language ability by measuring Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills. The test taker proficiency is measured as a holistic score on a scale of 10-160. Once the exam is over, the candidate receives a score from 10-160. This is a complete score and not section-wise scores. Usually, top programs ask for a score of more than 120.
